ABSTRACT

Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Moulding (VARTM) process is widely used for decades because of its cost-effectiveness and easy availability in composite manufacturing. The flow of the resin plays a vital role in the VARTM process. In this research paper, the flow of resin has been simulated by taking two dimensional and three-dimensional geometry with different shapes using ANSYS Fluent software. The resin inlet at the surface and edge point has been considered as an input parameter. The void content and mould filling time have been measured as an output parameter from simulation results. The effect of resin flow inlet locations and shape of the components have been considered as a process parameters. The complete mould filling pattern and velocity of resin have been observed during simulation in each case. The flat, as well as a curved shape, have been considered for the study. The simulation results have also been verified with experimental results for each case.
