ABSTRACT

The major role of Industry 4.0 is the integration of the real-world physical system with the cyber world, in terms of communication, computing, and control, the whole being termed Cyber Physical Systems (CPS). The physical system includes sensors and actuators that control and monitor the physical processes that manipulate the computation. The cyber system takes care of intelligent interconnection and information sharing among devices. This chapter considers the remote patient healthcare system, the most important societal need of this interconnected global village. The healthcare cyber physical system should be speedy in gathering patient’s information from the medical devices and should share it with medical personnel to decide and initiate treatments. Customized healthcare requires context-awareness to facilitate both the patients and professionals with event-driven notifications and location awareness. There is a need for dynamic and efficient services to integrate with the real world. Service Oriented Architecture is on the edge of stretching out its capabilities to real-world devices and allows the implementation of required functionalities as web services. Hence, context awareness can be enabled with web service discovery, selection and composition to make the system more dynamic. The authors introduce the Generic Sensor API, proposed by W3C, and used to expose sensor data to open web Platform and Semantic Sensor Network Ontology to realize semantic context-aware computing in the cyber physical system. This chapter discusses the latest technological advances, open challenges and research opportunities in realizing context awareness in the cyber physical system.
