ABSTRACT

Linseed belongs to the Linaceae family. It is an important oilseed crop grown for its seed and fiber. Linseed oil is rich in linolenic acid. In India, linseed is majorly cultivated in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Gujarat, and Maharashtra as Rabi crop. India is one of the major producers of linseed. Among various diseases rust, blight, and wilt are major ones affecting linseed production. Rust is a major disease limiting the linseed production in most parts of the world. With susceptible host, virulent pathogen and under favorable climatic condition disease spreads very rapidly within no time it may take epidemic form. The disease attacks all the above ground parts. Initial symptom appears on leaves as yellow to orange pustules. Infected seedlings appear yellow, wither, and collapse. Infection in the field appears in patches. Root shows red to brown lesions which may later turn dark and shrivel.
