ABSTRACT

The fresh fruit has a delicate, whitish pulp with a floral smell and a fragrant, sweet flavor. The occurrence and severity of the different diseases vary according to locations, age of trees, cultural practices, and orchard ecosystem. The symptoms start from the tip of the leaf as light brown to dark brown necrosis that advances towards both the margins of the leaf, leading to complete necrosis of the affected leaves that dries up subsequently. Litchi being cultivated over a large area in Bihar and adjoining states of India, the pathogen has the potential to spread very fast, causing heavy damage. Climate change, coupled with a change in the cropping system and pathogen population, maybe the cause of the increasing incidence of this disease. Light brown blotches appear on the portion of the fruit skin facing direct sunrays. In severe cases, more than half of the surface area becomes discolored, blotchy light brown.
