ABSTRACT
The number of hoax news that are still scattered in various online media in Indonesia and the high level of readability of online news in Indonesia is the urgency of why this research is conducted. Given the impact of this industrial revolution 4.0, online journalism is required to be able to present the actual and reliable news. Our research was conducted at suaramerdeka.com, which is part of the printed media business called Suara Merdeka. Suara Merdeka was once appreciated as the best newspaper in Java and Bali as the first best Indonesian regional newspaper. The type of research we use is the qualitative descriptive of critical perspective with Critical Discourse Analysis design. The results of this study refer to the concept of Gatekeeping. As an online media, suaramerdeka.com is closely related to the quantity of news. This system has weakness when pursuing quantity without paying attention to the quality.
