ABSTRACT

This research reviews expressive speech acts of rejection in the Javanese language in sale and purchase transactions in Pasar Wage. The problem studied in this research is the pragmatic force of expressive speech acts of rejection in Javanese language in sale and purchase transaction in Pasar Wage. The research objective was to describe the pragmatic force of expressive speech act of rejection in Javanese language in sale and purchase transactions in Pasar Wage, Purwokerto Timur District, Banyumas Regency. This qualitative descriptive research takes oral data in the form of speeches containing expressive speech acts of rejection in the Javanese language. The research data are collected from informants, in the form of speeches containing expressive speech acts of rejection. The research population is Javanese speeches containing expressive speech act of rejection. The advanced techniques employed are free-listening-participating-speaking (SBLC), listening-participating-speaking (SLC), recording and noting techniques. Contextual and equivalence methods are employed for analysis. The pragmatic forces resulting from the expressive speech acts of rejection in sale and purchase transactions in Pasar Wage are rejection in transaction and acceptance in transaction. The results of pragmatic force are influenced through the politeness principle and cooperation principle.
