ABSTRACT

The objective of this research was to describe the profile of quality culture and corporate performance by analyzing 264 creative industry small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in nine cities in West Java, Indonesia. A questionnaire was used as a research instrument. The SMEs’ representatives were asked to demonstrate the practices of quality culture and corporate performance. Quality culture variables were analyzed along seven dimensions: coordination between functions, customer orientation, competitor orientation, employee role, leadership role, transfer of knowledge and skills, and problem solving. For company performance, the examined indicators were business duration, employee absorption, and business change. The results of the study showed that the quality culture is very much determined by the commitment of the leader; SMEs with high company performance have a high-quality cultural dimension of leadership commitment and consumer orientation. The weakness of SMEs is their inability to transform knowledge and skills among members of organizations.
