ABSTRACT

The healthcare sector is changing dramatically. In the health sector, multiple processes take place that not only affect the care of individuals, but also help healthcare professionals and medical practitioners and can provide smart care and services for patients. The combination of high-performance smart technologies like Big Data, cloud computing using distributed real-time computing, distributed storage systems, and optimized use of sensors can effectively not only analyze an enormous amount of fast-paced healthcare data but can also predict the possibility of and cure diseases.

Due to the availability of safe, smart, and inexpensive wearable sensors, healthcare informatics is experiencing a revolution. The emergence and evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) using smart sensors is being exploited by smart hospitals to create remote patient monitoring (RPM) models that can monitor elderly patients even in their homes.

Advances in cloud-competent computing that can deal with enormous amounts of information allow the creation of smart healthcare frameworks capable of conveying inventive healthcare services.

In this chapter we will look in depth at biomedical or healthcare applications using Big Data, Internet of Things (IOT), and other smart technologies. Issues and challenges as well as future scope and opportunities in healthcare informatics will also be discussed.
