ABSTRACT

This chapter is intended to provide an overview of data fusion techniques and highlights the importance of data fusion in healthcare application. It discusses the survey of various healthcare sensor data fusion efforts and its importance for the internet of things (IoT). The chapter also discusses issues in handling healthcare data and also highlights the data fusion framework metrics from a healthcare perspective. It then discusses the applications of data fusion in healthcare and explores the survey by highlighting the survey results and research gaps. Data in IoT is dynamic and heterogeneous, which leads to inadequacy of simple single-source analysis methods. Data fusion integrates multiple data and knowledge into a consistent, accurate and useful representation which makes data fusion to provide high-quality information for a reliable decision support. The direct fusion process is the fusion of sensor data from a set of ­heterogeneous or homogeneous sensors, soft sensors, and history values of sensor data.
