ABSTRACT

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a much need improvement to the EU Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC, to protect the data privacy rights of EU data subjects with the right to seek redress. The continuous growth of data volumes and our thirst for new and advanced technology will always put us at risk with cyber security threats, and we see this way too often with the two biggest targets, financial service and the health industry. This chapter introduces the book and the reason for this impressive volume of work. It also exposes the world to the many talents of the authors who contributed to this book and made it happen. The reader will gain practical insights on complying with GDPR from experts in their field and make future contributions to knowledge on data privacy issues.
