ABSTRACT

Farm mechanization is dependent mainly upon the size of land holding, sources, and availability of farm power. Farm mechanization is the application of engineering & technology in agricultural operation to do a job in a better way to improve the productivity. The proper use of mechanized inputs in agriculture has a direct and significant effect on the production, productivity, and profitability on agricultural farms, along with labor productivity and the quality of life of people engaged in agriculture (Singh et al., 2003; Singh et al., 2006; Dixit et al., 2014). Since the cultivated area cannot be increased, the increased production will be possible only by increased productivity and increased crop intensity. Out of the total 5,036,000 ha geographical area of Punjab state of India, the net sown area has been increased from 3.75 m ha to 4.25 m ha, whereas the gross cropped area has increased from 4.73 m ha to 7.88 m ha resulting in an increase in the cropping intensity from 112% to 196% from 1960–1961 to 2012–2013 (Lohan et al., 2015). The productivity of farms depends greatly on the availability and judicious use of farm power by the farmers (Yadav and Lohan, 2006). Farm mechanization has made a significant contribution in enhancing the agricultural productivity and production.
