ABSTRACT

Nitrogen as an essential plant macronutrient is an important element that must be supported in fertilization for agricultural and horticultural purposes. Traditional nitrogen measurements involve time-consuming and costly laboratory methods, making these strategies impractical for current plant production worldwide. Thus, it is necessary to investigate and implement new strategies for this important measurement to estimate nitrogen in plants towards sustainable plant production. In this chapter, a current overview of different methodologies to estimate nitrogen in plants is presented, with emphasis on the specific features of each method in order to point out strengthens and weaknesses in the various cases.
