ABSTRACT

Soil is one of the vital natural resources for maintaining a sustainable future of world’s agriculture for food security. Nonstop discharging of the heavy metal laden industrial effluents to the soil and water in the industrially developed areas has created an alarming situation of heavy metal pollution. Traditional methods of contamination remediation cannot efficiently handle this situation and require bioremediation-based interventions. This chapter will give a basic overview of the soil heavy metal pollution and different methods of bioremediation with their advantages and disadvantages.
