ABSTRACT

Concrete is the most widely adopted material in the field of constructions. The enhancement of its properties or the development of new ones would allow to have a multifunctional and more resistant material for safer structures and infrastructures. The development of micromechanical modeling and simulations surely could support the design of nanocomposites and the prediction of their capabilities. Nanoparticles generally exhibit higher costs with respect to traditional raw materials for cementitious materials. Nanoparticles generally exhibit higher costs with respect to traditional raw materials for cementitious materials. The interaction of the cement matrix with nano-additions can modify the cement reactions, developing novel products for the construction industry with a more controlled and ecologically friendly behavior with respect to traditional concretes and composites. Moreover, the formulation of new functional nano-engineered materials made using tailored hybrid particles can contribute to the development of the use of nanocomposites.
