ABSTRACT

In recent years, applying phase change materials (PCMB) has attracted growing attention due to its potential to enhance energy efficiency and to provide thermal comfort in buildings. The proper use of PCMs can reduce the energy demand significantly, keeping the indoor temperature within the comfort range. This chapter provides an update on recent developments in PCMs used to optimize building envelope and equipment. First, a review of PCMs applications to improve building envelope is presented. This is followed by reviewing articles on building equipment optimized with PCMs to reduce regular energy consumption. Finally, conclusions and existing gaps related to the research works on energy performance improvement with PCMs are identified.
