ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on charging infrastructure of connected and autonomous electric vehicles (CAEVs) and their integration to future smart cities through microgrids. It provides an overview of smart cities, microgrids, renewable energy generation resources, and CAEVs. Current cities are going under drastic evolution due to the high integration of technology in the daily life of residents. The main driver of the change behind the power grid has been the desire to make power generation less dependent on fossil fuels. The efficiency of solar panels (SPs) is impacted by not only environmental parameters such as geographical location, the intensity of solar, temperature, and cloud obstruction but also system parameters such as performance of the employed SP modules, efficiency of converters, inverter and adopted control scheme. A wind turbine is used to generate electrical energy by converting wind energy into electricity. The implementation of wind turbines increases exponentially around the world.
