ABSTRACT

This chapter presents wireless charging infrastructure for connected and autonomous electric vehicles (CAEV) and depicts implementation of such a system that can provide effective communication between CAEV and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) as well as furnish automated reservation-based charging strategies, and depicts implementation of a system that can provide effective automated reservation for CAEVs. The development of wireless Electric Vehicle (EV) charging systems is currently at the early stage, and the focus is mainly on unidirectional charging of EVs. Open charge point protocol (OCPP), which is an open protocol between charging stations and a managing central system, would allow charging stations and central systems from different vendors to easily communicate with each other. Alternative urban mobility paradigms such as CAEVs are appealing since CAEVs can significantly contribute to not only optimize traffic flow and improve road safety but also minimize dependence on fossil fuel and reduce carbon emission in urban areas.
