ABSTRACT

Natural products have tremendous potential as active pharmaceutically lead molecules. Jasmonates are such molecules widely distributed in plant kingdom. They have reported for myriad activities, as signaling molecules to antiproliferative compounds. Cytotoxic and apoptosis inducing effects of Jasmonates on (Schizosaccharomyces pombe) fission yeast cells was carried out in the present study. Moreover, its cytotoxic potential was further checked on three renal cell carcinoma cell lines (ACHN, Caki-1, SN12K1) and normal cell line (HK-2). Jasmonic acid (JA) showed characteristic apoptosis inducing effect at IC50 concentration in S. pombe cells. The ability of three jasmonates (JA, cis-jasmone (CJ), methyl jasmonate (MJ)) to become potential drug candidate has revealed from the pharmacokinetic study.
