ABSTRACT

The present research work was implemented to detect the phytochemicals present in the chloroform extract of Tagetes erecta flowers using GC-MS analysis. Further, the cytotoxic effects of this extract were evaluated on human breast adenocarcinoma (Michigan cancer foundation-7: MCF-7) cell lines by MTT assay and AO/EB staining fluorescent assay. Preliminary phytochemical tests indicated the presence of flavonoids, phenols, phytosterols, tannins, and terpenoids. GC-MS profile of T. erecta flower extract showed the presence of 11 compounds. The anticancer activity studies confess the T. erecta flower extract is a potent anticancer agent for the treatment of breast cancer. Thus, the Marie gold flower may be used as a lead for the preparation cancer drug
