ABSTRACT

Telecommunication systems are evolving rapidly. The need for new configuration systems in the telecommunication area matches well with advances in the AI domain, especially in the configuration area.

This paper outlines the requirements a new knowledge-based configuration system will have to fulfil to configure complete and ambitious telecommunication systems. It describes the configuration process, embedded in the procurement process, the kind of knowledge needed and the interaction between the configuration system, the operator and the potential user (customer). Furthermore, we discuss our experimental configuration system KIKon.
