ABSTRACT

Submarine Nuclear Propulsion Plant Supervisors operate under different constraints to the civilian organisations. Not only must they ensure the safe intelligent operation of the equipment and systems, but they must also provide continuous propulsion availability and electrical generation, without which the submarine can not manoeuvre and fight effectively. This paper presents an investigation into the use of a Knowledge Based System in identifying, diagnosing and correcting a particularly disabling fault – A Loss of Coolant Accident – on a Nuclear Steam Raising Plant.
