ABSTRACT

This study focuses on the investigation of the real data on the wind and surface currents parameters for employing them in order to predict the survivor’s movement in the Szczecin Lagoon (Polish: Zalew Szczeciński) area. For this purpose, the surface currents parameters were recorded during empirical study on the Szczecin Lagoon. In turn, the wind parameters were measured at the hydro meteorological stations in Świnoujście and Trzebież. The conducted experiments and statistical analyzes of the results allowed to conclude that the movement of surface water masses of the Szczecin Lagoon significantly depends on the incoming air masses over the region. The obtained directions of air masses movement, after their shifting in time by about one and half hours, generally show high compliance with the calculated directions of drifter’s trajectories.
