ABSTRACT

The steel plate and concrete composite strengthening (SPCCS) technique is an effective method to improve the load bearing capacity of concrete bridges. In this method, steel bars were planted into the original structure, which were encased with the reinforcing steel plates set with studs, and new reinforcing concrete were casted between the original structure and the steel plates, thus the new and original concrete can work together. In order to study the shear behavior of reinforced T-beams, shear resistance test on a damaged RC T-beam reinforced by SPCCS technique was carried out. The failure mode and shear mechanical property of the test beam was analyzed. The test result showed that the reinforcment part could work well with the original structure, and the shear bearing capacity of reinforced RC T-beams could be improved by increasing the the lateral reinforcement height of the web. Besides, a calculation formula of shear bearing capacity for the RC T-beam reinforced by SPCCS technique was proposed, and the calculated result was in good agreement with the experimental result.
