ABSTRACT

The framed structures are often subjected to flow-induced periodic loads. When the frequency of excitation is equal to or twice the natural frequency of the structure, the structure may undergo a normal resonance or parametric resonance. A vibration experiment of a framed structure is conducted in this paper. The phenomena of normal and parametric resonances are observed and measured in this test. The characteristics and risk of parametric resonance is revealed in this paper. In the view of normal and parametric resonances, this paper discusses an alternative possible reason of “snake-like” vibration of Volgograd Bridge in Russia.
