ABSTRACT

The utility tunnel (UT) is one of the most important infrastructures in the modern society. The UT is a relatively closed space. Thus, the moisture condensation is often found on surfaces of structures and facilities during the ventilation in summer and will have adverse effects on the metal components and the electrical equipment. In this study, the environmental data was measured in the UT located in Suzhou, China in summer. Results show that the temperature inside the UT is about 21°C and the relative humidity is about 93%. Moisture condensation problems will be deteriorated by ventilation under conditions with high temperature and high humidity. Finally, Some suggestions for ventilation and dehumidification are put forward. This study will provide some guidance for the practical operation and management in UTs.
