ABSTRACT

The multi-scale simulation is presented for lifetime assessment of infrastructures in service. The multiscale simulation is applied to the coupled hygro-thermo-chemical-mechanical durability issues, such as the fatigue behaviors of saturated bridge-deck with consideration of damage induced by the substance formation and movement (water, ASR gel, corrosion products, ice) inside cracks and pores. In addition, it is also applicable to the long-term performance evaluation with consideration of drying shrinkage, such as the decay of dynamic stiffness of buildings and excessive deflection of PC viaducts. The multiscale simulation is further integrated with AI big data and infra-management. The crack location and their width are converted to space-averaged strains, which are built inside the cyber space for future behavioral prediction. The hazard map of crack patterns on concrete deck's surfaces is inversely derived from the artificial neural network which was built based upon the big dataset of the past maintenance records.
