ABSTRACT

Mechanical lamination is a restoration treatment for deteriorated documents. It is considered an invasive procedure and it is barely recommended, despite this, and the fact that the machines used are outdated, it is still used in the restoration field today. The aim of this project is to broaden our knowledge on the effects of this treatment on the paper documents and artworks and reflect on its application, thus providing an updated review, which allows us to reflect on its suitability. The research begins with a literature review and continues with an experimental phase, based on the analysis of the physical and mechanical properties of four kinds of paper documents reinforced with Archibond tissue applied with both, roller press and hot vacuum press. In orden to compare the properties and establish the conclusions, the papers were analyzed before and after their lamination and artificial aging.
