ABSTRACT

This research is focused on the improvement of nanolimes (Ca(OH)2 nanoparticles) as consolidant for limestones. For that, the Ca(OH)2 nanoparticles were doped with zinc oxide quantum dots (ZnO QDs) which have fluorescence under UV light.

The selection of an optimal mixture of solvents based on their surface tension and evaporation rate improved the penetration depth of the treatment, decreasing the chromatic change on the stone surface. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the treatment was also related to the physical properties of stones as higher in-depth consolidation was achieving when the limestone substrate has a higher porosity and higher medium porous size.
