ABSTRACT

There is a tendency among photographic and digital artists to exhibit their works without frames, using photographic support systems. Some of them present a complex assembly process and the supports are usually multilayer. In addition, materials of different composition and thickness are used that can affect to the image properties in the long-term behavior. For that, it is necessary to characterize these supports to identify the nature of its components. This paper shows the characterization by microscopy, FTIR-ATR, Py-GC-MS and SEM-EDX of five sup- ports: Dibond, Kapafix, Forex, cellulosic support and PMMA and, two adhesives: PSA and sili- cone. In all the supports layers have been determined: the polymeric matrix, the organic and in- organic additives. The adhesive compositions have also been determined.
