ABSTRACT

The Tomás Terry Theatre (Cienfuegos, Cuba) was founded in 1889. The main weathering forms in its façades are fractures, dampness and erosion, inside the building the weathering forms are mainly due to water that produces lacuna, chromatic alteration, concretions and loss of material. A matrix of vulnerability was employed in order to evaluate the state of conservation of the theatre and their main hazards. The results showed that the main agents that caused this weathering forms are dampness by capillarity and rainfall. Those agents produce total or partial losses of architectonic elements or their alteration inside and outside the building. On the other hand, the use of the building and the interventions are the main anthropogenic agents that evidence the influence of the viewers and the maintenance in the state of conservation. Further studies are being carried out in order to evaluate the preventive conservation strategies in the theatre that allow identifying, evaluating and prioritizing the maintenance and restoration for mural paintings.
