ABSTRACT

Globalization has increased connections over distances. Consequently, decisions and actions, such as management of land use, in one place are increasingly affected by processes taking place also in geographically remote areas. The distant environmental and socioeconomical connections and interactions between human and natural systems are called telecouplings. Telecoupling framework has been applied to tackle various research questions related to distant interactions between systems. The number of telecoupling studies has increased in recent years, and many of them address processes such as international trade, knowledge transfer, or species dispersal creating connections between spatially separated areas.
