ABSTRACT
Nitrous oxide is a gas that is produced naturally by many different micro-organisms in soils and waters, and as a result of human activity. It is apparent that most nitrous oxide is derived from soils. Because of the intimate connection between the Earth and the atmosphere, much of the nitrous oxide produced enters the atmosphere and affects its chemical and physical properties.
