ABSTRACT

Soil degradation, although humans are aware of the consequences of degradation, its magnitude is increasing by inappropriate use of natural resources, now becomes a major threat to the global ecosystem and food and water security of living organisms. The ever-increasing demand of world population, together with the so-called development of site-specific modern technologies that disregard the integrated basin-wide management of the ecosystems, has led to unsustainable overuse of soil/land and water. Measures to halt and reverse the decline in quantity and quality of the natural resources (soil and water) for achieving zero hunger, mitigating climate change, and conserving biodiversity and forests, along with combatting desertification the world must act urgently that accord with the targets set out in 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations which intended to be attained by 2030.
