ABSTRACT
Precision agriculture or site-specific management is an information-based management technique that has the potential to improve profitability and reduce the environmental impact of crop production. It also has the potential to improve the quality and nutrient content of the product. Precision agriculture, rather than the “one-size-fits-all” management strategy, provides for differential treatment of selected areas of a production field, called management zones, based upon expectation of increased yield, profit, or some other agronomic goal. The ability to provide differential treatment to management zones, also called site-specific management, depends upon availability of both proper equipment and effective treatment algorithms.
