ABSTRACT

The Kama Sutra was written at some point between the 1st and 6th centuries AD by the Sanskrit scholar Vatsayana. A full medical enquiry should be completed prior to any piercing, with issues such as needle phobias, fainting tendencies, allergies and the possibility of pregnancy being addressed. An antiseptic should be applied to the area that is to be pierced. Forceps may be used on the skin, and the piercing motion should be quick and confident. Relaxation of the patient is important throughout. Dressings may be required afterwards for protection of clothes, and also for hygiene and reassurance. The term ‘Frenum' is given to piercings of the frenulum. The Prince Albert consists of a ring through the urethral meatus that exits on the ventral aspect of the penis. Less commonly, one might encounter piercings of the clitoral body, and The Christina, which is a vertical piercing through the clitoral body which exits suprapubically.
