ABSTRACT

This chapter elaborates various paired materials used for triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG), which is deemed as an ideal source to achieve nanoenergy for power supply to the worldwide sensor network in the near future. We firstly introduce TENG from the genesis background, basic models, theory basis, and material sources. Then, several kinds of paired materials including dielectric-to-dielectric, dielectric-to-conductor, and semiconductor-to-dielectric (or conductor) in TENG’s fabrication and application are discussed deeply. Meanwhile, for improving the surface charge density of frictional materials to further enhance device’s output capacity, many methods such as modification of material composition, improvement of effective contact area, and control of environmental conditions have been suggested. Finally, the challenges and prospects of TENGs for commercial development are emphasized.
