ABSTRACT

Chapter 10 shows the results of the six practical problems presented in Chapter 3. After explaining DEA throughout the book, it will be assumed that the reader will be better prepared to understand the results in relation to the practical problems discussed previously. This explanation is made in the final part of the book to generate reflection on the application potential of the technique. In this chapter, it is shown that modularity of products can achieve improvements in productivity and efficiency of the bus manufacturer analyzed. It also identifies which factors influence the efficiency of a company that provides automotive fleet management services. In addition, it is shown that a management model constructed on the basis of DEA can contribute to improvements in the management of a fuel station network, and that not all investments and actions for continuous improvement will provide concomitant improvements in the efficiency of the companies studied. Finally, it is shown that DEA can be used to complement the efficiency analyses of the OEE production processes. The study conducted at a bus manufacturer shows counterintuitive results, whereby actions to improve OEE hampered the company's efficiency.
