ABSTRACT

Simulation tools are often used to evaluate the effectiveness of possible decisions. The availability of fresh groundwater is threatened by unsustainable groundwater extraction, and over-pumping leading to the severe problem of seawater intrusion. The study area is a coastal aquifer of Pavanje river basin in Karnataka. This study aims to simulate the groundwater system in the region by using the mSim toolbox in the MATLAB environment to determine the groundwater flow dynamics of the study area. The model results are compared with the field observations. The results on the observation of the water table indicate that, the variation of the water table over the year is significant and there is a reasonable correlation between the simulated and observed water levels as per the analysis.
