ABSTRACT

Studies about scouring around the bridge piers is most essential for safe design and maintenance of the hydraulic structures. An experimental investigation of local scour around cylindrical and chamfered piers in most available soils in rivers like sand and gravel are presented. The major objective of this study is to identify the variation in scour depth around the piers in sand and gravel at a constant flow rate. These studies will also examine the variation of scouring along longitudinal and transverse direction of the pier as well as along the boundary of the channel.
