ABSTRACT

Development of hybrid metal matrix composite has become the highly focused research area in the recent days. They find a wide range of applications in several demanding fields like automobile, aerospace, defense, sports, electronics and bio-medical. This research article is aimed to fabricate a hybrid metal matrix composite and a single synthetic reinforcement metal matrix composite with stir casting process and to analyze the properties. Hybrid MMC constituents used are aluminum alloy (matrix), silicon carbide and fly ash. Single synthetic MMC constituents are aluminum alloy (matrix) and silicon carbide (reinforcement). This work involves the property evaluation of the composites developed with different proportions of the reinforcement material namely silicon carbide and fly ash with Aluminum 2014-T6 as the matrix. 5, 10 and 15 wt.% of SiC and 2, 4 and 6 wt.% of fly ashes are added to the matrix for fabricating the composite. Tensile, Impact, hardness and vibrational tests are performed to study the mechanical properties.
