ABSTRACT
Sound has an important impact on sex scenes. Firstly, there’s the consideration of music, whether it’s smooth jazz, soaring choirs, ‘70s porn riffs, or even creepy and tense horror music; all of these will signal to the player what their emotional impression of the sex scene should be. Next, there are multiple sound effects that can add realism and tactile feeling to the scene, whether it’s rustling cloth, the whisper of skin on skin, or…slightly wetter, sexier sounds. Lastly, there is the consideration of vocalization from actors, not just dialogue (which will be covered in the next chapter) but moaning, sighing, and other noises. Souha Al-Samkari contributes a sidebar on how to direct actors for this content. The workshop questions involve listening to the audio of existing sex scenes and analyzing its content, as well as brainstorming ideas for future sex scene audio.
