ABSTRACT

Imphal is the capital city of Manipur and known as the city of Kangala. It is situated between 24.8074 °N and 93.9384 °E having an average elevation of 786 m. The city enjoys a humid subtropical climate and gets an average rainfall of 1581 mm. The prevailing climatic conditions of the city provide favorable conditions for the rich diversity of medicinal plants. Despite all, very less information was available on the medicinal plants of the city. Keeping this in mind an extensive survey was made in the year 2017 and enumerated the medicinal plants from the field and world’s famous Ima Keithal. Results revealed that 82 common medicinal plants available in the wild having rich diversity and sound medicinal potentials. Distribution of selected 10 medicinal plants was presented in the map of the city for bringing attention towards the conservation of such valuable urban resources. The present study also highlights the economic values of urban medicinal plants and their role in the sustainable development and health care of the populace of the Imphal, India.
