ABSTRACT

An efficient three-dimensional (3D) image analysis method is proposed for 3D reconstruction of nanofibrous membranes using scanning electron microscope (SEM) imaging. The 3D reconstruction of nanofibrous membranes is obtained from the 2D information of SEM images. It is based on 3D reconstruction from two views of single 2D SEM images for characterization of nanofibrous membranes. The proposed method exhibits very realistic 3D surfaces for 3D visualization of nanofibrous membranes. The performance of the proposed method has been evaluated on different regions of nanofibrous membranes. The resulting points are reconstructed and the error is evaluated and discussed. As the results show, a high accuracy is obtained in the case of low magnification and small angle between two viewpoints of SEM images.
