ABSTRACT

Animal origin food safety and quality is the most important issue of the recent era due to the issues created with poor feed quality, global warming, overgrazing, hormonal therapies of animals, as well as growth patterns of veterinary drug remains and antibiotics resistance of microorganisms. Due to problems, health professionals and the feed industry have focused on feeding techniques within the livestock industry, food quality, and safety concerns that can emerge in foods of animal origin due to implementation of low quality animal feeding practices. Animal foods mainly include meat, fish, milk and eggs, fiber, hides, and feathers. It is also called livestock. Livestock are the main source of diet in developed countries. Livestock is also responsible for other goods and services including draught power, manure, income, religious and cultural services, ecosystem services, and social status, and they serve as financial instruments. Foods of animal origin are rich in both macronutrients and micronutrients, and therefore an essential part of a healthy diet. A number of strategies can be utilized for this issue at local and global level to increase overall livestock production and to maintain sustainability.
