ABSTRACT

The story so far is shown in figure 5.1: an EIT system has been attached to a body containing tissues with interesting electrical properties; it makes voltage measurements at body-surface electrodes, as described in §4.3, and our next task is to reconstruct images from these measurements (chapter 6). But in order to reconstruct images, we need to know what each measurement “means”: this is the forward problem. This chapter describes how EIT measurements are related to the spatial distribution of impedance within a body.
