ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we present a description of standard Bacterial foraging optimization (BFO) algorithm. Next, we discussed some modifications to improve the performance of BFO algorithm such as elimination-dispersal probability distribution, adaptive chemotaxis step, varying population. The application of BFO algorithm is also demonstrated to solve a complex combinatorial problem. It demonstrate how to apply the BFO algorithm for the simultaneous optimal allocation of distributed generations (DGs) and shunt capacitors (SCs) in distribution systems.
