ABSTRACT

134Extraction and purification are the procedures widely applied in almost all areas of science, biosciences, and biotechnology. Recently, magnetic separation techniques based on magnetic nanoparticles application have been used to achieve this goal. The present review describes some aspects related to properties of magnetic nanosystems, functional groups, and examples of their use for protein and antioxidant extraction. The purpose of this paper is to summarize various strategies and materials which can be used for the isolation and purification of biochemical compounds with the help of magnetic field. It is hoped that the use of magnetic nanosystems will lead to the development of more efficient, economical, and environmentally-friendly technological processes applied to the food and biotechnology industries.
