ABSTRACT

Istanbul is one of the most crowded and traffic-intensive cities in the world. It is planned to construct 2-3 lane highway tunnels in order to reduce the traffic load, time, fuel loss and damage to the environment. Levazim Tunnel, one of the most important of these projects, is located on the Dolmabahçe-Kilyos route. In this study, the entrance portal of the Levazim Tunnel (T2) was investigated. Intensive structures were found in the upper sections of the portal section, and made ground were identified in the field surveys. There are intensive structures in the upper sections of the entrance portal and made ground were determined in the site investigations. Geological and geotechnical surveys are very important in order to eliminate potential problems. In this paper, planning and implementation of the site investigations required for design, preparing of geological model and geological sections with the proposal of solution are included.
