ABSTRACT

Since many years Spacetec provides tailor-made tunnel scanner solutions for maintenance purposes. The latest development is a four-channel scanner (TS4) which records high resolution colour images during the laser scan. Advantages are significantly faster driving speed during the recording and an easier interpretation of data with colour information.

Today, laser scanning is commonly used to support manual tunnel inspections. The current state of the art is marked by the TS3 system, a three-channel tunnel scanner, which combines noncontact visual, 3D and thermographic data in a single measurement. The surface covering laser scanner data establish a basis to implement the colour images as an additional channel for further usage.

This paper covers the scan method of the TS4 scanner and the operation of the system in the field. The benefits of high-resolution colour imaging for tunnel-inspection are discussed based on examples.
