ABSTRACT

In Sweden, the requirements for inspection of tunnel are stipulated to be performed in hand-close distance, in other means manually and optical by using some sort of lifting device, a monotonously and above all very time-consuming way of inspection.

But as the number of tunnel in Sweden grows, and become longer and longer, a need to implement a different approach to the inspections, are ongoing in The Swedish Transport Administration, governing almost all railway- and road-tunnels in Sweden.

Several evaluations and field tests has been performed by Trafikverket to see the capabilities of different hardware on the market, that has led to the following conclusion - the hardware part of the systems is not the main issue to implement, instead is the main issue what kind of software will the client, in this case The Swedish Transport Administration, rely on?
